A research journey across ecosystems, regions and scales

From Ecuador to a broader scientific perspective
My scientific journey began in Ecuador, where I developed an early interest in tropical ecosystems and the challenges of understanding and conserving natural resources while recognising the knowledge and needs of local communities.
I later moved to Spain to pursue graduate training in Environmental Agrobiology, completing an MSc and a PhD across the Public University of Navarre and the University of the Basque Country. My research career has since taken me across countries, continents and contrasting ecological systems in Europe and Latin America.
Today, my work spans tropical and temperate forests and island ecosystems. Moving across different ecological and research contexts has shaped a broad perspective on ecology, while maintaining a common interest in understanding environmental change and its implications for ecosystems, conservation and society.
Across these systems, my research follows a connected approach, from field data and large-scale ecological and social datasets to data-driven models, and from evidence to conservation and policy, bridging empirical research, quantitative analysis and interdisciplinary knowledge to address complex environmental challenges.

What guides my research
Scientific Integrity
I promote rigorous, transparent and reproducible research, grounded in responsible scientific practice and the open exchange of knowledge.
Inclusive Science
I believe scientific excellence is strengthened by diversity. I support opportunities for women, early-career researchers and groups that remain underrepresented in science.
Member of OWSD Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World - UNESCO Programme
I am member of an international network advancing the participation, leardership and visibility of women scientists from the Global South.
Connecting Hemispheres
I seek to connect scientific communities across the Global South and Global North, bringing together different perspectives, experiences and knowledge systems.
Science Beyond Academia
I work to connect scientific evidence with communities, practitioners and decision-makers, so that research can contribute to more informed and equitable approaches to environmental challenges. As a Member of the European Science Diplomacy Hub (CUSP), I engage with an international community working at the intersection of science, policy and diplomacy.
